Creating and Deleting Profiles on HMC/SE via BCPII

We have been using BCPII for quite a while to automate the control of the "defined capacity" in our z/OS Images. This was an important milestone for us because the defined capacity values can change very frequently based upon our clients requests. Our homegrown BCPII assembler application can easily set the new values. We simply need to provide an input file with the requested values, submit a batch job and a few seconds later the values are set.

As we have made very positive experience with BCPII we did the next step and wrote a REXX application to do things like

- creating reports (audit purposes)

- modifying activation profiles (Image, Load...etc)

- modifying other Image attributes directly, e.g. current Lpar Weights...etc.

Now we are able to do most of these things without using the HMC/SE web interface which is very, very helpful for us. It saves us a lot of time. The HMC/SE interface is okay but if you have to modify
50 profiles, it is more efficient to do it via a batch job calling the REXX interface than doing it via the HMC/SE web interface. Furthermore it is much less error prone.

PER IBM SME and not enough resources dedicated IBM agrees with the intent of this requirement. However, to fulfill this requirement will require significant changest from both BCPii as well as the firmware.
