Improvement for z/OS Data Set File System (DSFS)

For installations with a huge number of data sets DSFS should be improved.
Currently the UNIX command "find" could lead to thousands of RACF errors for MVS data sets when the DSFS directory is in your search path.
In particular DSFS have to do an open for all PDS/PDSE data sets to get the member list.

DSFS should have more limitations.
Right now you have only the possibility to configure an EXCLUDE of data sets. This is not sufficient.

We had the following ideas for DSFS enhancements:

  • INCLUDE mask ?
    • no data sets could be accessed by DSFS except these defined by the INCLUDE mask
    • more data set qualifier should be possible, not only HLQ
  • only single data sets could be accessed without the whole tree ?
  • the DSFS files/directory should disappear after a defined duration when they were not used, comparable with the AUTOMOUNT behaviour ?
  • configuration option like a FINDLIMIT, for example DSFS open the tree only for 20 data sets ?
  • possibility to open only a subtree with a mask with multiple data set qualifier, for example HLQ1.Q1.Q2* ?

We need an improved possibility to limit the search of DSFS files/directory tree.
