This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Default values for features (like SHARED) are determined by the UIM (not by HCD).
When you define a new device-to-OS connection in the HCD dialog this default is used to prime the dialog (e.g. for SHARED the default value is YES).
When you type a _non-blank_ value different from (a prefix of) "YES" or "NO" (e.g. "ABC"), you will see an error message stating that the value is not supported. You are prompted to enter (a prefix of) "YES" or "NO".
Only when you overtype the default value with blanks, HCD will interpret this as "NO".
We propose to change this behavior so that a blank field is treated like other unsupported values. I.e., you will see an error message and are prompted to enter (a prefix of) "YES" or "NO". This seems safer than quietly interpreting a blank field as the UIM-defined default value (which may be YES for some features and NO for others).
Would this change in the HCD dialog be helpful?
Thanks in advance !
Kind regards,
Your HCD Team
Should the UIM be changed ?
