Support Port Mapping from Sysplex Distributor Standard Ports to Kubernetes NodePort Services

Hello IBM,

We are running Openshift Cntainer Platform on z/OS and use Sysplex Distributor for load balancing the traffic between worker nodes. Our Container Team is requesting an enhancement to allow SD  to receive inbound traffic on standard ports and have it internally map/forward those ports to Kubernetes NodePort values. (Range - 30000-35535), a functionality that is supported by normal Load Balancers.

Today, SD requires that the SD port match the backend application’s exposed port. This limitation prevents clean integration between SD networking and kubernetes NodePort service, which is used to expose the OpenShift Ingress gateway.

The requested enhancement is:

  • Allow SDs to listen on standard user-facing ports (443, 8443, 80).
  • Provide native port‑mapping/translation inside SD so traffic arriving on the VIP’s standard port can be forwarded to a Kubernetes NodePort (e.g., VIP:443 → NodePort:32790).

Thanks

Shan
