Visualization and Configuration Enhancement for CPU and storage placement

Currently PR/SM decides during Activation of LPARs where the CPUs and the storage should be allocated and which Drawer should be used (VH GCPs, VH zIIPs, VM GCPs, VM zIIPs.... starting at Drawer 1 from the "lower" end and e.g. IFLs at the "last Drawer" from the "upper" end). The storage keeps near to the CPs. So far so good.

At our current configuration for example one LPARs fits perfect at one Drawer with 31 GCPs and 6 zIIPs.

for such kind of configuration it wold be nice to have the opertunity at the Image Profile to select a "preffered Drawer location" or something like that!? However you call it... If the customer makes a silly allocation parm you could overrule them via PR/SM and give the customer a Warning MSG like "your Perference could not fullfilled because of...."!? We know, that with z15 the PR/SM algorythm was changed and that PUs are now moved from one drawer to another. Howerver, a placement / prefferred selection at the Image Profile would be still nice if a customer e.g. want's to select 44 PUS at Drawer 1. In such a situation a hint / warning would be a good Idea that you now go cross drawer and what kind of cross drawer it is. It is a VH, because all other VHs a allready filled up the Drawer 1. Or is it a VM... or whatever. At this point you must check LSPRR with your waits and calculate all these stuff by your own...

The second Idea is regarding the visibility of the allocated storage. We are know, that we can extract some informations from SMF 99. However, we would love to see here an enhancement for example at the HMC, where the customer can see, where the LPAR storage is alloacted and in which Drawer it is placed. Perhaps here it is also useful to have the opertunity to have "Preffered Drawer location" parm for the Central Storage as well.

With theese two topics (Preffered Drawer location (CPU + CSTOR) and Visualization of CPU and CSTOR plancement) the customer is more aware of placing it correctly to prevent cross drawer communication for one LPAR.
