Add query parameter to read or write a set of records in a dataset

We would like to reduce redundant locking and response data volume. 

It could be as simple as "?start=10&end=23" which would only retrieve records 10-23. If either is not filled start defaults to first record and end to last record.

As a bonus, adding JavaScript like negative indexing (-1 meaning last item and -20 meaning 20th item from the end of the dataset). This could enable "?start=-20" meaning last 20 records or "?end=-1000" meaning everything but the last 1000 records.

There is no expectation for non-contiguous retrieval. So, there is no expectation to be able to get just records 3, 8, 300, and 7430 in one API call.

Datasets can be very large by the standards of non-ZOS systems. Being able to select subsets would allow us to reduce reads, network traffic, and downstream processing.

 

Then the same is true in the other direction for writes.

    .z/OSMF supports range-based retrieval through the X-IBM-Record-Range HTTP header. This should satisfy your requirement.
