The TS7700 RESTful API could be exploited from a Linux guest to provide this function. Using the curl command, you could use the token API to obtain an authentication token, providing a Management Interface user ID and password as input. A grep command could extract the token value for use with the other APIs. For the purposes of this particular requirement, the writeProtectModes API would provide the necessary information. A better approach might be to write a Python script to exploit this interface.

The API description document is provided by the TS7700. Just point a browser to the server host name or IP address, port 443 (i.e., HTTPS). It is also available from IBM Documentation at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ts7700-virtual-tape/6.0.0?topic=STFS69_6.0/TS7700_RESTful_API.yaml. In addition, there is some introductory information, including a sample Python script, provided here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ts7700-virtual-tape/6.0.0?topic=reference-restful-api.
