This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

At Volkswagen a Network Access Control is used to prevent access of unknown devices to the Volkswagen LAN (Local Area Network).
This has nothing to do with the function of the TKE (filling the crypto adapters with the masterkeys,…)
But the TKE needs also an access to our LAN to fulfill its needs. I have an temporary exception to run our TKEs within our LAN.
But our network department demands the use of X509 certificates and the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) to access the Volkswagen LAN for all new devices.
The standard which is used here is IEEE 802.1X.
Perhaps the TKE is already able to use EAP. But then I need a way to get a Volkswagen certificate to the TKE normally as a PKCS #12 file (.p12) and put it into the TKE operating system.
I've contacted Gary Sullivan and Mike Clark, and they asked me to open an RFE against the HMC.

This item is unlikely to be given high enough priority to be placed into the product plan.
IBM understands the desire and corporate need to have EAP-TLS authentication for network access. Currently, IBM is unaware of any current or pending standard which would make this a more prevalent requirement. However, the enhanced security offered by this mechanism is always welcome, and this item has been placed on a list of possible enhancements for the future.
