This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Currently the Z HMC supports RACF LDAP for local user authentication but the user must be locally defined. The users authority is also determined by locally defined definitions. The HMC code needs to be updated so RACF GROUPS can be defined for HMC authentication (this is already supported in DS8950). For example multiple RACF GROUPS can be defined on the HMC which correspond to specific authorities - RACF GROUP = SYSPROG would allow user to logon with SYSPROG authority. RACF GROUP = OPS would allow user to logon with Advanced Operator capability, etc. This would move HMC user access control to our INFOSEC department by allowing them to alter HMC authority by simply adding or removed groups from their RACF ID. This also makes it much simpler to onboard or remove users when the leave the department or company.
