This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Our customer was asking for this option - is it available - how can it be activated/ deactivated (case TS018530378)
It appears it is not possible to configure and idle user to be logged off from the HMC/SE - for me it makes perfect sense to have this option added in the HMC/SE settings.
Currently under Session tab we have 3 options available, but every time and idle user is being disconnected (the session remains opened). The way to verify if a user is logged off or disconnected is to use the task "users and tasks" where you can also force a user log off.
The setup related to this can be found in HMC (Driver 36, 41, 51):
1. Log in to the HMC as an ACSADMIN user.
2. Navigate to User Management.
3. Select the user you want to configure.
4. In the User Properties window, go to the Session tab.
These are the provided options (with details from HMC help):
Session timeout (minutes): Select this to specify the interval, in minutes, over which a user's session can run before being prompted for identity verification. If a value other than zero is specified, the user is prompted after the specified minutes have been reached to re-enter their password. If a password is not re-entered within the amount of time that was specified in the Verify timeout minutes field, then the session is disconnected. You can specify up to a maximum value of 525600 minutes (equivalent to one year). There is no expiration when unselected.
Verify timeout (minutes): Select this to specify the amount of time that is required for the user to re-enter their password when prompted, if a value was specified in the Session timeout minutes field. If the password is not re-entered within the specified time, the session will be disconnected. The default is 15 minutes. You can specify up to a maximum value of 525600 minutes (equivalent to one year). There is no expiration when unselected.
Idle timeout (minutes): Select this to specify the number of minutes the user's session can be idle. If the user does not interact with the session in the specified amount of time, the session will be disconnected. You can specify up to a maximum value of 525600 minutes (equivalent to one year). There is no expiration when unselected.
I am suggesting the option "Log off user after session inactivity" to be added next to the three options mentioned above. There should be an option to set the time as in the other three options. Maybe some other conditions should be considered - e.g. opened/ running tasks that will prevent the log off in certain scenarios.
