IBM Z Hardware and Operating Systems Ideas Portal

This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

incorrect Operlog processing

For an Incident CEA/CIM actually offloads the Operlog to an VSAM Linear Dataset and defines a Logstream.
Only a later select of the 'Operations Log' in the zOSMF Web Interface initiate an 'unload' from the VSAM Linear Dataset into an sequential dataset. The existence of VSAM Linear Dataset and the Logstream are unnecessary and can result in system problems when many SVC-Dumps are written in a short time period.

We think that the 'unload' to the sequential file should be initiated by CEA/CIM directly after the offload from the operlog logstream.
After that the VSAM Linear Dataset and the Logstream should be deleted.

Here is what we see when an SVC dump was taken (incident case):

    1. offload dataset allocated : TM.MZ00.CEA.O00.CE8E32B5.E399D920.A0000000 (org. VSAM)
    2. staging dataset allocated:
    TM.MZ00.CEA.O00.CE8E32B5.E399D920.MZ00 (org. VSAM)
    3. logrec report allocated:
    CEA.R00.CE8E32B5.E399D920.X00.VEW
    4. logrec summary allocated:
    CEA.S00.CE8E32B5.E399D920.X00.VEW
    5. previously allocated staging dataset deleted:
    TM.MZ00.CEA.O00.CE8E32B5.E399D920.MZ00 (org. VSAM)

Further more a *dasdonly* logstream CEA.O00.CE8E32B5.E399D920 was created.

Where/what is the vsam dataset that you are referring to? CEA does not write a VSAM file at the time it creates the OPERLOG logstream snapshot.
    Thanks, Susan Demkowicz, CEA Development

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - zSeries Software
    Product - z/OS
    Component - BCP_CEA
    Operating system - IBM z/OS

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - zSeries Software
    Product - z/OS
    Component - z/OSMF
    Operating system - IBM z/OS
