This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Observed, heard, and thank you for SMF42JDST1 -- but wait only 1-byte field -- unfortunately still somewhat hampered with the max job-step limit (recorded) of 255 / yet same info is reflected in a 2-byte binary field in SMF 30 as SMF30STN..... Can we get this limitation addressed possibly ?
Appears that having the READER_TIME (submit timestamp) and the added-soon STEP_NUMBER would be sufficient - especially when considering that only having the JOB_STEP_NAME without the PROC_STEP_NAME can/may be somewhat limiting..... And this is needed in order to map an SMF 42.6 back to the corresponding SMF 30 subtype 2, 3, or otherwise subtype 4 at (eventual) step-termination.
Anyway, regardless, the improvement is helpful -- thank you for listening IBM z/OS BCP team !!

Scott Barry
