Kerberized FTP with Sysplex High Availability

FTP is a highly used way to transfer files from/to the mainframe.

In the modern time it is a well known way to use Kerberos for authentication and Single Sign on.

Currently, FTP on z/OS can be configured to use Kerberos only with the Host IP address that is returned by gethostname(). Because this is configured in the KERB segment of the STC User, no multiple definitions are possible. So, once the FTP server is shutdown, an outage for kerberized FTP would be the result. There is currently no high availability solution (usage of a SD, DVIPA,..)

Other products on z/OS that use Kerberos can be configured for a princilal that should be used, for example LDAP with the "serverKrbPrinc" statement.
FTP should be enhanced to make it possible to configure the Server Principal.

For more details: See the PMR 64288,077,724, I think there were a possible solution from the KERB team discussed.
