DFSMS Storage group Analysis

DFSMS Storage Group Analysis :
Currently, there is no way to check the allocations of a DFSMS Storage Group during a specific period. This makes it difficult to understand the amount of allocation, free space, largest free cylinders ( in each volume ) within a storage group at a particular time. This feature will be used in abundance on the Mainframe Storage platform giving the storage administrators the ability to analyze the root cause of that critical abend or to monitor the amount of space being used/wasted during a specific period in the past and gives us the ability to use DASD storage efficiently.

    Sometimes for a very active Storgrp using the V SMS,SG(sgname),SPACE before the the D SMS,SG(sgname) can ensure the displayed values are as accurate as possible. Also helps with ISMF Storgrp display for the space values.

    The feature, Total Space Alert Threshold %, in a storage group and the output of DISPLAY SMS,SG(...) or DISPLAY SMS,SG(...),LISTVOL can't be used to achieve your goal?

    Output sample for D SMS,SG(...) :

    10.32.16 SYSTEM1 D SMS,SG(S1P02)
    10.32.16 SYSTEM1 IGD002I 10:32:16 DISPLAY SMS 574

    STORGRP TYPE SYSTEM= 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
    S1P02 POOL + . . . . . . .
    SPACE INFORMATION:
    TOTAL SPACE = 32MB USAGE% = 50 ALERT% = 0
    TRACK-MANAGED SPACE = 32MB USAGE% = 50 ALERT% = 0
