OpenSSH debug1: Exit Status 1 - misleading

System: OpenSSH on z/OS
Actor: User needing clarification / adjustment of failure message - can be misleading in its current state

Description:

For all current versions of OpenSSH, we have something like this:

Connection to hostname.xyz closed.
Transferred: sent 1234, received 5678 bytes, in 9.1 seconds
Bytes per second: ---

debug1: Exit status 1

This exit status of 1 is misleading and can imply for non-experienced users of OpenSSH that the issue resides on the client side - when it is really a return code / status of the remote server after some processing.

We'd like it to say something like:

debug1: Exit status 1 from remote server hostname.xyz
