z/OSMF create your own category on left bar

At the moment it is not possible to create your own category for your personal links on the left bar of the z/OSMF panel.
You can only create a new link for a given category or create it as a "no category" button.

Since z/OSMF has removed the classic interface in z/OS 2.5, please use the Desktop interface to manage the links. Thanks.

The ability to create categories (and Tasks) on the Navigation panel is essential to separate/differentiate our own processes and workflows from those of IBM. We want to exploit z/OSMF as a modern day services tool to provide customized capability relevant to our company.

Currently we would have to and our processes to pre-existing categories from IBM. This is impractical, especially if you consider the number of additional services could be in the 100's.

Secondly, we don't want to modify existing IBM services out of the box. We would much rather take a copy of an existing service and customize the copy to suit our needs. This way, if we have a problem with a service we don't have to deal with IBM support in trying to debug a modified service. Rather, we would have to recreate an error on the service provided by IBM in order to engage support.

I understand that there may be an IBM response that says we can use the z/OSMF desktop to achieve this capability. I disagree. The desktop is a Rube Goldberg approach. The desktop does not have the ability to provide sub-categories, nor the ability to customize the desktop for different parts of the organization. Can you imagine adding 100's of icons to the desktop as a flat canvas? Not acceptable. Spend you investment dollars on the Navigation Panel enhancements and not on the desktop. BTW, if you satisfy this RFE you can kill the desktop.

Just to clarify, is this RFE is specifically addressing adding Links that typically fall under the Links category, which can be added using the z/OSMF Administration->Links task? Or is it addressing adding Application Links? Or both?

There could theoretically be an administrative capability to simply add a category, which should update the list of supported categories, which could then be selected for Application Links and also when adding new generic URL links.
