This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

I agree with that. We need a recursive Option for hbdelete that deletes backup versions of all unix files and sub-directories within the specified Directory path. And that Option should be officially supported and provided by IBM.
For the meantime I can share our Workaround that also works with unix filenames containing Special characters.
//-+----1----+----2----+----3----+----4----+----5----+----6----+----7--//HBDELETE EXEC PGM=BPXBATCH,PARMDD=PARMIN,REGION=512M
//PARMIN DD *
SH hlist -X /path/to/my/Directory/ | grep FILE= | cut -c6- |
sed -e "s/'/''/" | sed -e "s/[\$\"\`\\]/\\\&/g" |
sed -e "s#.#hbdelete -oav \"&\" ;#" | sh &;
/*
//* Special Chars must be escaped: $'"`\
//* no escaping necessary for: ()[]{} _+-~=´?!:;.,§@%^<>
// -------------------------------------------------------
Note 1: This works with Codepage EBCDIC 1047 (IBM Default USS North America).
With other Codepages some of the characters will look different.
Note 2: Only these special characters should be escaped in hbdelete shell commands: '$"`
Escaping of other characters with a leading \ resulted in FILE NOT FOUND situations.
