SMP/E SYSMOD Publish Date

Submitted By: SHARE-MVSE
Submitted Date: 08/30/2022
Submitter Name: Todd J Gagle (Software Architect)
Submitter Email: todd.gagle@broadcom.com
Description:
The SYSMOD element currently contains several dates associated with PTF. These include INSTALLDATE, ACCDATE, RECDATE, and RESDATE. I am able to determine the date and time associated with all the actions that I have performed, but I am missing a very important date. When was the PTF created or published? This is the conversation from the Community: _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mike, here's my comment on this requirement. This requirement appears to be written against SMP/E since it proposes new SMP/E keywords within SYSMOD elements to solve the requirement. However, what the requirement is actually asking for is "information", and it is a product owner's software manufacturing system which provides such "information", not SMP/E. Further, I would suggest that this requirement as written is way too specific in dictating a proposed solution - to add specific keywords to the SMP/E SYSMOD - or to propose the use of an existing keyword REWORK to solve the proposed problem. Good requirements are more general. Define the problem you are trying to solve, and let IBM respond to that problem. I would suggest striking all references to SMP/E, keywords, and such, and rework this requirement to instead describe the business need - provide the customer with an ability to assess a system for risk based on the publish date of various serviceable elements, or whatever the articulated risk criteria might be. As currently written, I feel IBM is likely to simply "decline" this requirement. ------------------------------ Brian Peterson IT Architecture Consultant UnitedHealth Group Eden Prairie MN ------------------------------ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for your input, Brian. I spoke to Todd(the OP) about this requirement. It is a result of a discussion between him, Marna Walle and Kurt Quackenbush at SHARE Columbus. The suggested solution was actually offered by Marna and Kurt. Starting in September 2023, IBM PTFs contain the date on which the PTF was published. The REWORK operand on the ++PTF statement contains the PTF publish date in the form YYYYDDD where YYYY is a four digit year and DDD is the sequential day of the year. For example, REWORK(2024016) corresponds to 2024 January 16. PTFs published prior to September 2023 are not updated to contain the REWORK operand and the publish date.
