During zOSMF upgrade of zOS add the ability to connect Old Usercat to New Mastercat

For as long as Serverpac has been available (and maybe even before) when doing a zOS upgrade I create a New Master catalog and connect an old User Catalog to it which contains datasets that start with SYSINST in it. SYSINST is used for Serverpac datasets that are not required to be on the Sysres or system volumes (eg dlibs, smpe etc). This applies to all IBM Serverpac ie CICS,DB2,MQ,zOS etc. zOSMF install of zOS does not allow an old Usercat with a new Master Cat. I have spoken to some of my colleagues in the profession and quite a few commented they do a very similar thing (but havent used zOSMF to do a zOS upgrade yet.

    This is an excellent addition to zOSMF. Workarounds will no longer be needed for my future z/OS upgrades. Thank you.

    The Deployment action in z/OSMF Software Management has been updated to support connecting existing user catalogs to a new master catalog. This allows you to use your existing data set name high level qualifiers and enable access to existing data sets from the new master catalog. This support is provided in z/OS 3.2, 3.1, and 2.5 via the PTFs for APAR PH66618 which closed on 5 November 2025.

    I agree. When using Serverpac, you have always been able to specific HLQ's to existing Usercatalogs on the Alias to Catalog screen. However, this same functionality is not available with zOSMF. According to a PMR I opened on this exact issue, I was told that the resulting catalog name must be a "new" catalog. This functionality should have been added to zOSMF as well.
