Every open-source tool that I've seen that supports member generations, and several IBM and ISV products, include member generation information in the standard member list display. FileManager hides the support under PDSE Workbench which does provide a usable member list with generations.
A suggestion is to provide two new member list commands, GEN ON and GEN OFF, which will show or hide the display of generations - and if provided then an ISPCCONF option to set a default (recommend ON) as a site wide default.
