Enhance zsh so the delete key works as on other platforms

Currently the zsh shell works well on 3.1 but the delete key on z/OS does not work the same as on Linux. On z/OS 3.1 zsh the delete key generates a ~ character and inserts it. The zsh shell should be consistent.

I would like to respectfully suggest that this be fixed so that this issue is not being addressed by every IBM customer multiple times as users switch from /bin/sh to /bin/zsh and encounter this issue.

We also suggest to enable the delete key by using bindkey.
Customize key bindings in Zsh by modifying the .zshrc to turn delete key as below:
Step #1: add below statement in user's zsh profile .zshrc to band the Delete key to delete characters
    bindkey '^[[3~' delete-char
Step #2: save .zshrc file and restart your Zsh session

    Thanks

Until the problem is finally solved, here is a workaround:

    # fix delete key
    bindkey "^[[3~" delete-char
