This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

If the zOS FTP Server initiates a data connection in active mode and if this TCP connection cannot be started for some reason (for example because of firewall restrictions) the timeout for this connection initiation is at least 120 seconds depending on the setting of parameter CONNECTTIMEOUT in TCPIPs TCPCONFIG statement (if CONNECTTIMEOUT default value of 75 seconds is used, the FTP server timeout of the data connection is 158 seconds). In that time, the user of the FTP client is not able to disrupt this FTP server timeout, it is not possible to process some other FTP subcommand. The user can only terminate and restart the FTP-Session.
The FTP-Server timeout of 120 seconds is hard-coded. It should be made customizable with a configuration parameter (like DATACTTIME for the FTP-client). The timeout process should be independent of the stack parameter CONNECTTIMEOUT. For example, if CONNECTTIMEOUT is set to 75 seconds and the new FTP timeout parameter is set to 30 seconds, then an unsuccessful initiation of an active data connection should be aborted after about 30 seconds.
