Add a Shell Pipefail Option

The USS Shell does not support a pipefail option 

on other linux i have  a shell option 

 -o pipefail

  • This setting prevents errors in a pipeline from being masked. If any command in a pipeline fails, that return code will be used as the return code of the whole pipeline. By default, the pipeline's return code is that of the last command even if it succeeds.


if i pipe cmds together in rexx bpxwunix  i want a rc ^=0 if any cmd in the pipe fails 

e.g. cat inputfile | otherutil 

the otherutil may accept empty stdin, which occurs if the file does not exist. => rc=0 

pipefail would return cat rc=1 if the file does not exist
