This requirement came from PMR 59002,379,000, Customer UNITED HEALTHCARE SERVICES, Customer representative Mark Wheeler. In summary, Mark would like to be able to install an External Security Manager (ESM) application to each member of his multi-member SSI cluster. He would like to be able to do this in a "rolling" fashion, that is, install the ESM on one member while the other members do not have one installed. Production guests would be relocated accordingly so that the iterative ESM installations could proceed on the other SSI members, one at a time, without disruption of the production guests.
This is currently not possible. To implement an ESM on all SSI members, all members have to be brought down at the same time, which means that all guests and their applications are down at the same time. When Mark attempts to do this today in a "rolling" fashion one member at a time, he fails with the message "HCPPLM1663E SSI function JOIN has failed for service Security."
Refer to the PMR for more information and discussion of this topic.
