ONLY (O) Edit Primary Command

An ONLY function (exclude all lines except those meeting the search criteria) is a very common editing function. It is frequently one of the first edit macros developed when learning edit macros.

Unfortunately, due to limitations with numbering modes and certain find strings, it is very difficult to provide the same functionality as can be done with X ALL <label range>;F ALL <label range> find-parameters

It is unlikely that we will provide the native command being requested, be we could consider addressing the issues the submitter identified with the current ISRONLY macro. So, this RFE will be accepted to track that candidate work.

I am requesting a native command. The ISRONLY macro has attempted to compensate for some macro shortcomings regarding number mode, bounds and embedded /* in strings but is not equivalent to a X ALL ;F ALL find-parameters.

For example, while editing the ISRONLY macro, try ISRONLY ispexec 1 30 to find ispexec within columns 1 to 30. It will give a 'String not found' error due to wrapping all the parameters in quotes -- searching for 'ispexec 1 30'. ISRONLY requires you to quote strings that FIND does not.

Another stranger result occurs with ISRONLY &RECFM. Because it is a macro, the &RECFM string triggers variable substitution and instead of searching for the string '&RECFM', it searches for 'F' (the value of the Rexx recfm variable).

    Thank you for your consideration.

ISPF provides an ISRONLY sample edit macro that would appear to do what you are asking for here. It is available in ISP.SISPSAMP. Is this sufficient, or is your request that we make the capability a native primary command instead of a macro?
