Enhance CIU display and procedure for permanent upgrades.

Using ResourceLink, CIU to order a permanent upgrade to an 8561 was successful and the record download ready.

From the HMC, we performed model conversion, permanent upgrades with the retrieve processor upgrade data but do not apply successfully.

During change window, we were to install the permanent upgrade. Performed pre-check on staged record successfully.

#1 - We selected apply processor upgrade data (Previously retrieved), the attached screenshot shows original 8 CP's and new 8 CP's. However, we had ordered an upgrade to 9 CP's.  This caused confusion during the apply process, so we selected the cancel option.

Our idea is to enhance the display to show the ordered CPs regardless of low water mark or even show both models.

#2 - Canceling the apply processor upgrade, deleted or removed the previously download the CIU record from the HMC.  This caused additional confusion in trying to find the record again.

Our idea would be to not have the record deleted or removed upon cancelling the process. Thus, allowing for the backout without deleting the previously purchased and downloaded permanent upgrade.

Additionally, add a warning screen saying, "if you cancel this apply, the record will be removed and will need to be retrieved again."

#3 - We recommend the ooCoD manual be updated to reflect the above changes along with screenshot to provide better information since CIU is the state path for future upgrades vs. have a SSR apply the permanent upgrade records.

This is a three part request.

Item 2 has been resolved with the release of z16

Items 1 & 3 will be addressed by strategic plans to redo the entire perform model conversion into new task(s) in a future release.

    IBM Z CIU Team,

I am the Z Executive Architect dedicated to the DXC account. We support many ultra high availability complex's within DXC and use ooCoD extensively, this was a first attempt at permanent CIU and activation was hindered/delayed actions.

Please contact me for a real time discussion.

    Thank you.
