Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

USS HealthChecks

We are requesting to add USS health checks to Health Checker for z/OS to validate correct USS configuration and also identify best practices.

Some items that we would like checked:

(1) Validate permission bits for /etc, /dev, /tmp (i.e. ensure tmp has sticky bit) -- perhaps validate permission bit settings against SYS1.SAMPLIB(BPXMKDIR)
(2) Ensure separate file systems for /etc, /dev, /tmp, /var etc...
(3) Ensure /etc/profile exists and that it is the latest version (from /samples)
(4) Version root file system is mounted read only
(5) Verify automove parameters are correct, i.e. /etc has automove=unmount, root is automove=yes
(6) If TFS is setup, verify correct setup
(7) If cron is setup, verify correct setup
(8) umask

There are others, just listed a few of the top ones.
