TASID - Make Open Source

Suggest IBM make TASID 'Open Source' code and place it on the CBT tape.

As noted in the below IBM website, "This tool is available on an 'AS IS' basis" and "In z/OS 2.2, some functions do NOT operate correctly. Selecting option 4, Initiator Status List, results in message: Unsupported level. TASID could not find the PIT control block."

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=17&context=SSBLLD&dc=D400&uid=swg24009131&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=en

If IBM is NOT going to support TASID going forward (z/OS V2.2 and z/OS V2.3)... I suggest making the code 'Open Source'.

Given the fact we would have to first translate TASID to an externally-available language, hhis item is unlikely to be given high enough priority to be placed into product plan.

Most of the TASID function is written in a language only used within IBM. So, to make it open source, we would have to first convert it to assembler or some other generally-available language. While that is certainly possible, it is unlikely based on limited resources.

TASID has proven an extremely useful tool for systems programmers/administrators on the z/OS platform. While some of the functionality from it was incorporated into ISRDDN, there are many other features that should not be lost. Making the code open source would allow the community to extend this outstanding tool.
