More info about certificates and keyrings in connection analysis in zERT. Merged

It would be very useful for a z/OS security group to identify quickly what certificate and keyring is being used in a connection. We know that currently we have the DN that uniquely identifies the certificate but it would be easier and faster if we had available the label or the serial and if possible the keyring.

The keyring and certificate label information are not visible to zERT as they are local configurations (the certificate may come from a keyring or a java key store or a gskkyman kdb file) that do not flow during the TLS handshake. zERT is only aware of what flows in the TLS handshake messages. Since the certificate itself flows in a handshake message and contains the serial number, zERT has access to it. We do have another open Idea to add the serial number to the SMF 119 subtype 12 record as you suggested. (See https://ibm-z-hardware-and-operating-systems.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/ZOS-I-339.) Feel free to vote for that Idea to show your support.
