ZFS save cpu. Provide option to stop SMF file activity, and eliminate getmain/free main for every open/close SMF record

When I was looking into Java was so slow on z/OS compared to Ubuntu, I noticed there was an SMF call for every file open ( and close) , and a getmain/freemain as well. To start z/OSMF took over 600 seconds of CPU! This needs to come down to about ...

CHECK(IBMUSS,USS_PARMLIB_MOUNTS) make MTAB updatable.

IBM Healthchecks are very good to follow, to avoid an outage. We use them a lot! But if a mount statement of a ZFS data set is wrongly defined in BPXPRMxx. The Healthcheck (IBMUSS,USS_PARMLIB_MOUNTS) complains with an exception. "ZFS NOT MOUNTED. ...

MMAP function under z/OS USS should be able to use 64bit address space.

We have a proof of concept to run an off-the-shelf name indexer product under z/OS USS. This product is a native 64-bit Java 8 application that uses the Lucene indexer. The product functions under USS for small indexes. However, the call to mmap i...

Automount and RACF FSACCESS

When we use automount, where the policy creates a new zfs for a userid, in conjunction with RACF FSACCESS, "phantom" directories are created. It would seem more sensible that automount honours FSACCESS before the dataset is created.

RACF Profile BPX.SAFFASTPATH

Make BPX.SAFFASTPATH more granular (e.g., add userids and access) or add another profile with a userid and access authority to USS resources. Access to UNIX services and resources (e.g. IPC queues) requires many, many SAF Router (IRRSXT00) calls f...
