IBM Z Hardware and Operating Systems Ideas Portal

This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Simplified MNTE_SYSLIST syntax as part of z/OS UNIX REXX mount command

Currently, if a user would like to include MNTE_SYSLIST as a parm in his USS REXX mount command implementation, the user must code the MNTE_SYSLIST as though they are writing assembler code using the mapping described in BPXYMNTE:

MNTENTSYSLISTNUM DS H Number of entries in syslist (2 bytes)
MNTENTSYSLISTFLAGS DS H Flags (2bytes)
MNTENTSYSLISTINCL EQU X0000 Include syslist
MNTENTSYSLISTEXCL EQU X0001 Exclude syslist
MNTENTSYSLIST DS 32CL8 System names (array of up to 32 names each up to 8 bytes long)

This implementation is contrary to the ease-of-use which is usually characteristic of REXX. The syntax for this parm within REXX should be straight-forward. The necessary bit manipulation to conform MNTE_SYSLIST to the BPXYMNTE mapping should be done under the covers rather than being explicitly required of the user.

Proposed solution: Simplify the complicated assembler-like coding required to set MNTE_SYSLIST. Set the stem variable mystem.mnte_syslist to something readable like INCLUDE sys1 sys2 to aid in ease-of-use.
