HMC FCP/NPIV Reporting Enhancement

Currently the only tools available to validate FCP/NPIV configurations are:

1) Configuration/FCP Configuration:

This gives us a snapshot of the FCP/NPIV configuration – which if we need the full environment requires us to offload via FTP, which is fantastic as we now have a CSV file that we can see a LOT of information regarding the environment. Here are the fields and a sample of a couple of lines:

partitionName,cssId,iid,chpidId,ssId,deviceNumber,wwpn,npiv mode,current configured,pchid,phys. wwpn,

VLXPGT03,00,01,80,00,8000,c05076cdb4810d80,On,Yes,01e1,c05076cdb4801e11

VLXPGT03,00,01,80,00,8001,c05076cdb4810d88,On,Yes,01e1,c05076cdb4801e11

2) Channel Problem Determinations > LPAR > SAN Explorer > Device/Address > Zone Members & Affinity

See attached screen shots for option 2.

Recently for example we had a HUGE update to the zoning (or any new config) in which we added a new “global” zone as shown in attachment as well as removed prior zone definitions which were more limited in nature. The “problem” we’d like to address is that it is HUGELY time consuming even to spot check a few CHPs due to the nature of the CPD panels and having to traverse up and down the menus, swap between LPARs or especially switching between CHPs, then drilling back down to a single LPAR, rinse and repeat.

Obviously this data is exposed and available to the HMC/SE – We would like to see an option similar to the FCP Configuration item (or maybe just a selection within that tool) to be able to export a CSV including the Zone Members and Affinity for each NPIV device. This would make validation and troubleshooting immeasurably easier as that could then be imported into a tool like Excel and filtered to find where perhaps something has no Zone Memberships/Affinity or just to validate that recent updates have removed superseded Zoning/Affinity etc…

Unfortunately with the current separation of duties as they currently exist I have no access to leverage any tools that would use either the BCPii or any web API's. That was why I had suggested it being a level of reporting, or extension of the current reporting in the FCP/NPIV tool that currently exists on the HMC. I am not apposed to gathering information via the tools you mention, just currently lack the toolset required to leverage them.

    Hi Brian,
Would a HMC Web Services API or BCPii V2 solution be acceptable to get the configuration details? These are more inline with the current strategy.
