PORTL Conflict Notification

When z/OS TCPIP is intializing and detects a PORT conflict when processing the PORT reservse list (be it an incorrect statement or an error in coding), TCPIP will issue an "I" (Informational message) such as;

EZZ0326I NOAUTOLOG CONFLICTS WITH PORT VALUE INTCLIEN USED ON LINE 43

As this would result in ALL port reservse being ignored, I would consider this a very important fact that would justifiy the message being changed to and "E" error message and not am "I" message as "I"'s are often overlooked.

    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/OS Communications Server

    For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Enterprise Networking
    Product - z/OS Communications Server

    Changing message identifiers is something that we try to avoid doing as it potentially impacts automated operations users may have set for those messages. And in the case of profile syntax errors TCP/IP has many messages it issues with an "I" suffix designation. Making this change at a global level would require significant changes and might have significant impact on customer operations. However, we believe that a new function that will be available with z/OS V2R1 will provide for a better solution to this problem. This new function allows users to perform a Syntax check of their TCP/IP profile before they use it (on startup or via V TCPIP,,OBEY command). This syntax check function allows users to ensure their profile is syntactically correct before attempting to use it - that way errors can be corrected prior to using the profile and encountering errors as part of the profile activation. We believe this new Syntax check function should be used for all users in the normal process of making updates to TCP/IP profiles - and doing so should alleviate the problem encountered in the problem description.
