PDSE member count limit

Until z/OS V2R3 PDSE allows for member creation until it reaches the count of 522,239 members. After that, we get message IEC306I :
IEC036I
A WRITE would have had to create another member in a PDSE which already contained the maximum allowable number of members. The limit is 522,239 members.
END ERROR DESCRIPTION: IEC036I
Currently PDS supports a much higher number of members to be created and this fits more application needs if compared to PDSE.

If the limit were to be approximately doubled, such that roughly 1M members could be created, would that be sufficient? Please keep in mind that in addition to the space required to store those additional members, more directory space would be required, affecting both storage utilization and performance.
