RACF: Establish a Permission Create Date

This idea goes along with ZSECURE-I-566. The zSecure suite has several toolsets to cleanup the RACF DB. One area of cleanup is unused/inactive permissions.

Access Monitor does track when a permission has been used and provides a tool to remove the permissions when they have not been used recently. But one area it cannot deal with is permissions that have been never used. Currently they are using the profile creation date but that is not a good idea. The profile could have been created years ago, but the permission could have been added yesterday. That logic would lead to the recently created permission to be deleted.

If field is created we would need a way to populate the field with data. Could be a utility be created to look at the profile's Command Audit Data to populate a permit creation date field?

Suggest that you more clearly document in the zSecure function to delete inactive permissions that the function does not handle permissions that have never been used. You base the never been used permissions based on creation of the profile which could have been years prior. An administrator could really get in a mess, if they are not careful to notice that a permission granted last week and never used could be marked as inactive because the profile was created a long time ago.

We spent a significant amount of time verifying this, when it would have been good to have it documented.

If establishing a create date is not possible, could IBM provide a process to mine the Command Logger data to determine when the permission was created?

    Thanks

This item is unlikely to be given high enough priority to be placed into the product plan.
