This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

With the new DS8A00 and FCM4 it is necessary to define all Volumes as type ESE (Extended Space Efficent). But we found that the normal flshcopy command under z/VM doesn't either work with ESE-Volumes. You must establish, copy and withdrawn the Flashcopy relationship by seperated Commands with a manually check if the Flashcopy is over. z/OS doesn't have this problem!
So please make the flashcopy-command eligible for ESE Volumes under z/VM.

This request was noted to us in development and we reviewed the associated Flashcopy code. It appears that for any Flashcopy command with the target device being ESE should set the appropriate flag to indicate that to the hardware on the request. The expectation is for both versions of the command to currently work with ESE devices.
If you are having failures of your Flashcopy commands with ESE devices, we would like you to open a support case so we can gather additional data to investigate.
