IBM Z Hardware and Operating Systems Ideas Portal

This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Support for Diffie-Hellman in the crypto coprocessor cards (CEXnC)

We call in our CICS applications external webservices and external http requests, which are hosted at external Partners, means there is a http conversation between CICS and an external Partner, in which CICS has the role Client. For security reason there is the requirement to encrypt This communication via SSL/TLS. For this Task there are different cipher suites available with different key lengths and different encryption processes. We realized, that it consumes a lot of CPU if we use ciphers suites which include Diffie-Hellmann, e.g. TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA, because a lot of the calculations are execucuted in SW, means on the usual GP CPUs. Other suites are completely calculated in crypto Hardware, but the modern cipher suites mainly use DH. We reduced the cipher suites to the following list 0A2F35 to avoid the CPU Overhead, but this is only a short term solution (TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA is actually used). The middle-term solution should be to offer more stronger and modern cipher suites, without any Overhead in the CPU. consumption.

Product family - z Systems Hardware
    Product - z Systems Hardware
    Component - Crypto HW

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Hardware
    Product - z Systems Hardware
    Component - Security / Crypto
