Environment: z/OS 1.13, DFSMShsm 1.13, DB2 10, DS8700 with Flashcopy SE, TS7720 VTS.
Our plan was to issue the DB2 "BACKUP SYSTEM" command to flashcopy our three production DB2 subsystems. The BACKUP SYSTEM command then issues DFSMShsm FRBACKUP commands and other commands to backups the DB2 COPYPOOLs. In DFSMShsm, I setup the DUMPCLASS(s) to go to our TS7720 virtual tape drives and set the MAXDUMPTASKS to 30 for the number of virtual tape drives to use. We only have 12 3592-E06 tape drives so going to the virtual tape drives reduced the turnaround time. Next, we planned to use the Virtual Data Recovery product from Rocket Software to copy the DFSMShsm Dump tapes (HSM.DMP.FCDSN*.** datasets) to physical tapes. Then, we planned to use VDR to recover the dump tapes but the TAPEREPLACE command doesn't work for these tape datasets. We had also planned to use GRIDing from our TS7720 to another TS7720 at our DR site. So the limitation of TAPEREPLACE command would keep up from going tapeless for DR too. Could the DFSMShsm TAPEREPLACE command please be enhanced to support Flashcopy SE DUMP tape datasets (i.e. HSM.DMP.FCDSN*.**, where FCDSN* is the dumpclass name.)? Thank you for your consideration for this enhancement. .

This type of enhancement is in the DFSMShsm roadmap, but it is a large enhancement and will need to be delivered over several releases. IBM understands the value of this request, but there is no commitment to provide a solution at this time.
