HSM Duplex volume to different esoteric

We need to all HSM to write the primary volume and duplex volumes to different esoterics so that we can select different units to choose which VTL a copy is written on.

    We are in a non SMS tape environment using only esoterics to decide where a tape gets mounted. In our VTL environment we want to send the tape to a specific range of devices which allows us to spread the work across VTL front ends.

    Tape solutions that support SMS tape, including IBM tape, provide this capability. The alternate tape data set has a unique qualifier in the name, 'COPY', so that SMS can be used to direct that tape to a different library than the original. Both tapes must have the same geometry, and there are no plans to remove that requirement. Is there something other than this existing capability that is being requested?
