PDUU (AMAPDUPL) should support UNIX files

We plan to use AMAPDUPL replacing plain FTP for sending dumps, logs, files to IBM for problem determination. Unfortunately, AMAPUDUPL doesn't support Unix file. SYSUT1 is only for sequential dataset and PDS.

In order to send Unix files to IBM with AMAPDUPL we will need to copy Unix files to MVS dataset first and then use AMAPDUPL. It's not a practical way for customers.

Unsecured and anonymous FTP will be disabled 31 August 2022. To ensure a smooth transition from plain FTP to AMAPDUPL, we would like to request that AMAPDUPL should support sending Unix files.

Worth to mentioned is that a UNIX file support is also needed in z/OSMF Incident Log plugin. An error message is shown up selecting an USS file for upload a diagnostic file using PDUU with HTTPS. Hopefully this entry makes this RFE/Idea more urgent as well.

Currently we upload all things with AMAPDUPL to IBM Cases. If this is a uss file we copy them to mvs and then upload it with AMAPDUPL. If it is a whole directory, we pax it first, copy it then to mvs and then upload it with AMAPDUPL.

Now we got more and more feedback form IBM colleagues, that they haven’t the ability, to investigate these files. E.g. Products from passport advantage or other multi-platform tools like the IBM Copy Services Manager. They told me that they haven’t the whole mvs toolset to investigate uss files, wich are uploaded via AMAPDUPL!?

From my opinion two points should be addressed on this.

    1. all IBM colleagues, which are responsible for z/OS Software, should be possible to use AMAPDUPL on their IBM system.

    2. Neither native SFTP nor the java program SDDUU is a solution for us as z/OS Customer. Therefore, we support the proposal to enhance AMAPDUPL for uss files AND Directories!

A sample case where we have the problems described at Point 1 is TS011807697.

More and more products are working with USS files, those should be supported for z/OSMF z/OS Connect Zowe

This should urgently take under consideration because otherwise it can also become a z/OSMF Incident Log blocker sending files ...

This item is unlikely to be given high enough priority to be included in a release plan.

This is a really necessary basic function and should have been implemented from the beginning...
