Have IDCAMS ALTER NEWNAME process whole VSAM SPHERE's

It would be very useful if a new optional SPHERE parameter could be included for an IDCAMS ALTER NEWNAME of VSAM datasets so the rename function is applied to the whole sphere associated with the base cluster, or at least it's Data and Index Components.
Separate renames for AIX's and PATH's would probably still be necessary as they can be quite different to the Base cluster sometimes but it would still help when the AIX cluster newname is applied to it's components as well.

When doing an ALTER NEWNAME for VSAM datasets it requires each component in a VSAM Sphere to be specified individually. This often catches out newer colleagues who are unaware of this and they only rename the base Cluster leaving the old named Components as they were. While this will continue to operate OK, it can create confusion when looking at them later.
Also if someone tries to redefine the cluster with the original name the cluster name is created OK, but VSAM creates 'generated random names' for the component names to avoid duplicate names and these look nothing like the base cluster name.

There is no warning such as an RC=04 and/or message given by VSAM in either of the above situations. Even that would be helpful.

While IBM agrees this is a worthwhile change, due to resource constraints, it is unlikely to be implemented any time soon.
