The BCPii in the z16 processor was enhanced to notify the operating system that the SE is unavailable when it is rebooting and when it is back online and available to be used. Use case was so that Operations didn't have to manually suspend BCPii via GDPS during planned SE interruptions.
The BCPii should also be enhanced to notify the operating system when a CPC is in SERVICE MODE and when it is out of SERVICE MODE and available. It was observed when the CPC was in SERVICE mode for more than three hours without suspending BCPii GDPS produced GEO252E messages. When reported to IBM as a defect it was determined this is working as designed.
