This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

CICS TS 4.2 and above provide support for Java by running a JVM within a 64-bit PIPI enclave (CELQPIPI).
Every thread within the enclave begins life as an LE pthread and so has the LE ESTAE active for error handling. CICS enabled threads will additionally have the CICS ESTAE active ahead of the LE one. The general approach taken by the CICS ESTAE is that all abends are unexpected and it handles everything. This all works fine until an "expected" internal LE abend occurs. The CICS ESTAE catches this abend and handles it by terminating the current in progress request and eventually terminating the entire enclave.
We have seen that for 31-bit PIPI enclaves there is a CEE3ERP interface available that a "vendor" ESTAE routine can call to find out if the abend being processed is really intended for LE or not.
This interface does not appear to have been implemented for 64-bit enclaves.
In order to do error recovery correctly for Java applications in CICS we need a 64-bit interface.
