System: z/OS
Actor: User wants to eliminate the worrisome message IOS071I
This customer regularly runs ICKDSF PPRCOPY SUSPEND batch job to suspend lots of dasd PPRC volumes. During this job is running, they often observe IOS071I IDLE WITH WORK QUEUED message which indicates dasd H/W or z/OS S/W problem.
After investigation through PMR (47439,694,760), the following is found.
The IDLE WITH QUEUED condition is usually detected when the same IOQ is found queued on the same UCB in two MIH intervals, i.e. when the IOQ is kept queued on the UCB more than one second.
However, for MSCH (Modify Subchannel) case and after APAR OA24429, IOS071I IDLE WITH WORK QUEUED message may be issued when the MIH interval scan hits the timing of IOQ for MSCH being queued on UCB.
Because PPRC SUSPEND processing involves the dynamic pathing validation processing and when the target dasd is PAV base, MSCH often gets CC1 (busy) and so MSCH IOQ may be kept queued on UCB for brief moment (but not so long, not more than one second). When MIH interval scan hits this timing, IOS071I IDLE WITH WORK QUEUED is issued even though there is no serious problem.
Customer requested to eliminate this message being issued when it should not be worried.
