ADRDSSU Dump: should not ignore migrated Dataset, at least give warning message for Migrated Dataset not included in DUMP

Hello Team,
Our monthly maintenance process is lot dependent on ADRDSSU utility, where we take DUMP of target to Runtime and Runtime DUMP from one lpar to another using ADRDSSU.

Last two months due to some SMS change some of our target libraries got migrated.

We moved the Maintenance for two months missing latest version of load lib for one product.

It was all due to the ADRDSSU design, which was running fine with MAX CC 0 and not complaining about the dataset it was missing due to migrate status.

I can understand this is working as design and manual does have this updated, however this deign require improvement for sure.

We are shipping 100+ libraries every month and if this UTILITY give some warning or error for Dataset it is skipping due to Migrated status should be very helpful.

I see lot of people were surprised about this strange behavior of this UTILITY.

The same utility give waring message if we use complete Dataset name, however if we are using Mask in Dataset Include list it just ignore the Migrated datasets. It is even more important for UTILITY to issue warning messages in case of MASK, where multiple dataset are included.

This is for sure a bug in Design of this Utility.

Please check and make require changes to have such warning or error message to inform user about missing dataset, as we get for dataset without member.

Regards
Azeem

If it had the same as ABARS so you could copy direct from ML1/ML2 if required without recall would be a nice solution.

    Hello,

Even better would be an option to RECALL migrated data set and the DUMP them!

I had to do this for my own purpose using REXX and ISPF in BATCH, to force RECALL of migrated data sets before creating a backup set of these data sets. It would be much neater to do this in DSS!

    Thank you

Thank you for submitting this RFE.

I was wondering if you are aware of the following patch that we offer? Please review this reference:
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.4.0?topic=area-issuing-notification-tape-migrated-data-sets-oy66092

Using this patch will cause DSS to issue a warning message for migrated data sets when using a partial filter.

Please let me know if this solves your request.

    Thanks
