After APAR OA48746, SMFLIM will always defer region limits to IEFUSI settings. This causes problems in our migration from IEFUSI to SMFLIM, such that we are completely unable to devise a safe migration plan. Our IEFUSI will set region for all steps that it sees, based on what has been requested in JCL. With IEFUSI we are hoping to be able to force a vast majority of job steps to use REGION=0, thus finally getting rid of the numerous problems we tend to have where people specify too smal regions and end up in abend scenarios. However, to be able to implement this, we need a fast way to back out changes if we find steps that actually can not use REGION=0. Our plan was to set an SMFLIM that forced every job step to REGION=0 and then have a second, empty, SMFLIMxx member for fast backout. After OA48746, this is no longer possible since the IEFUSI specifications will always win.
We ask that IBM add a way for us to let IEFUSI defer to SMFLIM's decisions, should there be any. This is in line with the original way this was designed before OA48746. We are very open as to how it gets implemented; for example it could be a keyword in SMFLIMxx or it could be a new bit in the IEFUSI parm data, or any other workable idea. Basically we wish to be able to let IEFUSI return the region subwords and then if SMFLIM processing gets a match we want to have that ignore the IEFUSI data.
