This is the public portal for all IBM Z Hardware and Operating System related offerings. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We support customers who depend on the use of SMB and, specifically, SMBDFR=N. They have asked us to support continuous availability through the ability to detach & reattach certain VSAM files while the underlying platform (a started task) remains active. What this amounts to programmatically is a close, deallocate, reallocate & open sequence and what we've found is that at reallocate time it's not possible to specify the SMBDFR=N setting. Note that this is initally achieved via JCL thus:
XXCMNPMAST DD DISP=SHR,DSN=CMNDEV.CMNSYSX.&NAME..CMNPMAST,
XX AMP=('STRNO=255,SMBVSP=60M,ACCBIAS=DO,SMBDFR=N,MSG=SMBBIAS')
Note that the shareoptions for the VSAM files in question are 2,3.
The two avenues we investigated were the use of a particular data class and the passing of AMP= parms to dynalloc. What we found was confirmed by the IBM rep in the 72027,082,000 PMR and that is:
"While we agree that adding the AMP parameter to SVC99 would be a good thing, this will not happen quickly. Likewise adding SMBDFR and STRNO to
the data class would be a good thing, but again that will not happen quickly. Both of these additions/changes involve multiple components in
z/OS that would need to be coordinated and would depend on what and when resources are available. "
