Additional information about the status of Cache Fast Write

Currently there is no easy way to be sure, that Cache Fast Write(CFW) is not used on your system. But in the event of an hyperswap CFW can be a problem. Therefore every customer should know their configuration. The problem is that the "DEVSERV P" command can state that CFW is enabled eventhough it is not used and therefore lead to some confusion.

Concluded: It is possible that DEVSERV states CFW is enabled even if it is not honored when disks are in a PPRC relationship.

Furthermore there are programms that exploit CFW, for example SORT. Jobs using SORT could therefore be affected while a hyperswap occurs. Most of the time this should be a problem, but is still is not what we want.

In our opinion there should be a HealthCheck which explains that CFW is enabled, but will not be honored.

Today the z/OS Resource Measurement Facility (RMF) writes SMF Record Type 74 Subtype 5 fields that clients can check periodically to see if there were Cache Fast Write I/O requests and if the values increase over time.
