Enable SSH under OMVS to accept RACF password

I go into OMVS
I type ssh userid@host
I get back 'FOTS3322 Passwords may not be entered from 3270 terminals'
If I can logon to TSO with a userid and password, why can't I logon via
SSH with a userid and password?

Here are my suggestions:

(1) In the Unix world there's a function called getpass() - See 'Using
REXX and z/os Unix system services, SA23-2283 - which allows the system
to prompt for a password that's not displayed. Perhaps that could be
used. Or,

(2) If the OMVS shell is too '3270-ish' for that, then why not put out
a panel - just like TSO - where the password is not displayed.

If neither of the above are workable - then surely some bright person
within IBM can come up with a solution. The current implementation is
extremely unfriendly.
