HSM Should have a valid backup before performing migration for Extent Reduction

We have HSM set to not allow migration without a valid backup. We also have maxextents set to 5 for extent reduction.

There are times that HSM migrates a dataset out for extent reduction and is unable to bring the dataset back - often due to lack of space on the volume.

The dataset then stays on ML1 but does not have a valid backup - contrary to our Audit requirements.

If one sets that migration is not permitted without a valid backup, then migration for extent reduction should not occur for that dataset unless there is a valid backup copy.

    Hi,

We have begun working on RFE 101360 to include in the next release of z/OS.

    Question for you...

    Do you want HSM to:

Skip EVERY extent reduction if there isn't a backup copy for the most recent version of the data sets (Data set change indicator is on)

    or

Only skip data sets for extent reduction if they meet the same criteria as skipping migration (data set change indicator is on, management class indicates automatic backup and storage group indicates automatic backup).

    Thanks.
